Advanced networking

This module provides advanced packet identification (Deep Packet Inspection) that allows data processing decisions be made at level 7 of the OSI’s reference model. Deployment of COMMS MUNDI’s advanced networking needs that the modules named “Basic system” and this “Advanced networking” be acquired.

The advanced features provided by this module are:

Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) based on data traffic’s types (levels 2 to 7).

Data traffic characterization. Association of labels to different types of data traffic in order to distinguish them according to OSI levels 2 to 7.

Redundancy on Internet connection. The load balancer allows management of several connections to Internet, in such a way that the failure of one of them does not affect system operation.

Bandwidth management (Level-7 traffic shaper / QoS manager). Every application, protocol or user can rely on a reserved bandwidth. Consequently, all the critical applications have their operation guaranteed. This is particularly important for voice communications over IP (VoIP).

Data lines. Allows connection of several independent data lines via ADSL, cable, radio, or others data networks.

Data traffic’s type definition. Powerful and versatile association of labels to different types of data traffic in order to distinguish them according to OSI levels 2 to 7 (addresses, protocols and applications). These types or classes of data traffic allow advanced programming, with low risk of errors, of the following COMMS MUNDI modules: router, firewall, NAT, bandwidth control, load balancer and advanced contents filter modules.

Load balancing. It allows a unified management of several connections to Internet (virtually up to an unlimited number of connections), so that the failure of one of them does not affect system operation. This module includes identification of failed interfaces, identification of lines without routing capacity and programming of weights on a per interface basis. So, the load balancer module allows balancing either by assigning weights to every interface or declaring one of them as the main and another as the failover. Besides that, it also provides the load balancing service through DNS towards devices connected to the internal network.

Level-7 Traffic shaping / QoS control. Every application, protocol or user can rely on a reserved bandwidth and a particular priority. Consequently, all the critical applications (e.g. voice over IP, email, etc.) have their operation guaranteed. This module provides an advance control mechanism that controls data traffic up to application level, and can even detect known traffic on non standard ports (ports camouflage attempts).
