“Captive portal” controls access to Internet, mainly when public access applications are used and provides mechanism for system usage accounting. It allows authentication of users by means of a web page, into which is possible to include customer information or set links to either any other local page or external site.

The authentication requests are handled in the backend by a RADIUS server; i.e. RADIUS is used as the Authorization, Authentication and Accounting (AAA) protocol.
