Introduction

ALATEL is a small Spanish-based Information Technology integrator who was required for one of their customers to urgently provide a solution to:

• Empower strongly communications with its commercial force and remote workers to improve their sales and customer's response. This means secure data communications with mobile phones (Windows Mobile) and with teleworker's home ADSLs (Windows XP and above).
• A full featured email server. The email server provided by the Alcatel solution only performs email's relay functions.
• IP security: A firewall and a SPAM filter.
• Traffic prioritization thorough broadband office communications that guarantees critical needs.

Despite the fact that this customer is an exclusive distributor / system integrator for the well known Alcatel's PBXs and Unified Communication devices, it didn't find in these products the solution it was looking for. So, it asked ALATEL for a solution to its requirements.

Solution

ALATEL proposed COMMS MUNDI as the most appropriate solution for it needs because it provides all the services and functions required: Email server.

• User management and authentication.
• VPN server, which allows the definition of L2TP/IPSec-based VPNs over which all the external users can safely connect to the Enterprise's internal resources.
• The application-level firewall to protect the internal network, which along the VPNs allows all the mobile devices to access in a secure way to the needed resources.
• Traffic bandwidth control.

The results overcame the expectations not only for the features, stability and performance provided by COMMS MUNDI but also for the easy and fast deployment of the solution. Almost none issues were reported.

WIRELES MUNDI provided an extensive support, which consisted in providing guidelines for system installation and initial set up and in carrying out an important study to assure the compatibility of this solution with all the mobile devices involved. So, the VPN function of COMMS MUNDI was checked against different smart phone's operating systems.
